The resort sets on the picturesque Kona-Kohala coast of Hawai'i Island, is a magnificent work of destination art. Built into its natural surroundings, the resort combines history, culture, pure pampering and true aloha to all who come its way. The resort features 243 magnificent rooms and suites, championship golf, world-class spa and fitness, tennis, on-site ocean activities, retail boutiques, seven pools, cultural experiences and award-winning dining. All the while, the contrast of ancient black lava rock with towering coconut palms, white sand beaches and azure seas creates opportunities for lasting memories.

What we love: 

  • Whale watching is very popular in the island. Between December and May, humpbacks and other whales are often seen frolicking in the warm waters near the Resort. 
  • The Big Island also has superb snorkelling; visibility can be up to 100 feet (30 metres), and you’ll swim amidst tropical fish and corals.
  • At around 4,205 metres above sea level is the summit of dormant Mauna Kea volcano, which is topped by the famous Mauna Kea Observatories and—usually in winter—snowfields. A variety of nature tours are offered on the mountain, and stargazing is possible a bit lower down the slope at the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy, located at a more easily tolerable altitude of 2,800 metres. Visit Volcanoes National Park at the south tip of the island to peer into the smoking crater of Kīlauea volcano, and, if your timing is right, watch glowing red lava pour into the sea.

  • Venture into King's Pond, a 1.8-million-gallon "aquarium" carved out of natural lava rock, featuring more than 4,000 tropical fish swimming freely, including a spotted Eagle Ray.
  • Be prepared for the round of your life at the Resort’s Hualalai Golf Course, where fairways are threaded through fields of black lava. The Jack Nicklaus–designed course is home to the PGA Champions Tour’s season-opening event, the Mitsubishi Electric Championship, and you’ll quickly see why the pros love this 6,492-metre layout.
