Napier, in the heart of the Hawke’s Bay wine region, suffered a massive earthquake in 1931. The quake and the fires that followed destroyed most of the town. The city was rebuilt in the style of Art Deco. Its clean simple lines and base relief decoration suited the needs of the new Napier city.
From tragedy to treasure, visitors today come from all corners of the earth and all age to see, feel, and experience this unique collection of heritage buildings and participate in the Art Deco celebrations.
