Now you can become one with the universe as you gaze upon the stars at Six Senses Con Dao private Astronomical Observatory. This marks the first opening of a celestial viewing centre in the southernmost region of Vietnam.
From conception to realisation the imaginative project took twelve months of planning and construction. The grand idea originated from Six Senses’ regular celebrity astronomer Dr Parag Mahajani, an independent consultant and trainer in the fields of Science and Technology, and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society of London. With 25 years of experience, Dr Parag, has been visiting all Six Senses resorts for more almost a decade, and in each location delighting guests and hosts with a wealth of information related to the field of astronomy.
At the heart of the project, a Maksutov-Cassegrainian 127mm telescope allows guests to view celestial highlights of the South Vietnam sky such as Saturn, Venus, Jupiter and of course our own satellite, the Moon’s surface. Up to 30 guests can participate at each evening session. The activity is available to all resort guests twice a week from 9pm to 10:30pm on a complimentary basis. There is a nominal fee for private sessions.
Dr Parag visits Six Senses Con Dao several times per year and when he is not on property, the resort’s Excursions Director Georges F. Erhard conducts the sessions. During Dr Parag’s visits he hosts evening slide shows at By The Market, talks on astronomical observations, morning solar observation sessions and exclusive zodiac dinners. Dr Parag also conducts similar programmes at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay where guests can enjoy cocktails while stargazing.
